Barnyard Stories with Sheffield Children
I've spent the last two days with 11 classes of Sheffield kids in a barn for the ESCAL team's Wonderland of Books festival.
The event took place a Whirlow Hall Farm Trust
, a charity which specialises in giving children a real farm experience. Over 200 children met the animals, had a tour of the farm, sang songs and made up stories. They also made wonderful book boxes and got to visit the Little Library Bus and read about a naughty Rhino who escapes for a zoo. Hmm. That sounds familiar!
ESCAL is an award-winning literacy project run by Sheffield City Council. It aims to ensure that: Every Sheffield Child is Articulate and Literate. Find out more here
We had great fun - and the sun even shone for us!
Thanks to everyone at Sheffield ESCAL and Sheffield Library services, and to all the fantastic children and teachers who came. We had a brilliant couple of days!
