Visits and Events

Over the past 15 years I have worked with thousands of children and families across the U.K. I run creative literacy workshops in hundreds of schools and for libraries, festivals and School Library Services, helping to boost literacy and generate a real buzz about books and reading. I have lots of experience working with children from all backgrounds, especially those in areas of deprivation and disadvantage. Many of my sessions are run in partnership with The National Literacy Trust, Book Trust and

I believe that every child has the potential to shine, and I work hard to ensure that everyone in my sessions feels seen and valued. We have a lot of fun reading my books and creating new stories for the characters.

“Not only did Caryl leave a lasting impression on our students, but our staff were equally enthused and pleased with the day. It's evident that Caryl is not just a fantastic author and public speaker but also a genuinely lovely person whose values align perfectly with ours at the school: happiness, high expectations, nurture, consistency, understanding, and positivity.” - Abi Allum, Deputy Head, Northern House Academy.

“One of my boys, who is a very reluctant writer, did his best piece of writing of the whole year following the session with Caryl. He was so motivated and worked meticulously to write his story and then edit it (which is a massive deal for him). I was so proud and impressed with what he did.” - Cat Edwards, Chevening Primary School.

"Caryl was enthusiastic and brilliant to work with, and engaged with the children right from the start. The children loved meeting a real life author, and Caryl really brought her books to life sparking so many ideas and helping the children create their own submarines and undersea worlds." - Catherine Mitchell, Derby Libraries.

“The children loved it and the staff thought it was brilliant!” - Jordyne Robinson, Blenheim Primary School

“Thank you for shareing your amazing and awsome books, you reading to us was an amazing treat and I loved your teddyies.” - Milo, Silverdale Primary Academy, Hastings.

“You’ve reminded us how much using props can help us get the most from reading with our children!” - Teachers attending Hastings Kingsnorth Early Reading Conference

"It’s an absolute pleasure working with Caryl and her team. Her storytime and activity events are really popular with our visitors and we look forward to working with her again in the future." - Seven Stories, Newcastle.
