The Princess and the Shoe OUT NOW!
Princess Jasmine is no ordinary princess. Oh no. She's hates long dresses and bows and definitely does NOT want to hang around waiting for a prince to marry her!
She would much rather be outdoors, running races with the wind in her hair. Unfortunately, her family have other ideas. They don't think running around and getting sweaty is very becoming and would rather Jasmine spent her time getting ready for her Big Birthday Ball.
But when Jasmine sees a poster for a cross country running race, she decides she simply HAS to have a go and starts training right away. Things don't go very well to start with and after trying as hard as she can, Jasmine is ready to give up.
Luckily, her fairy godmother arrives just in time, with words of encouragement and a pair of magic shoes. Will they help Jasmine win the race? Or will her courage and determination be the things that carry her across the finish line?
This book is about following your dreams, even if they are not the same as everyone else's. And of how those dreams can come true if you are prepared to work for them. Some things in life come easily, but BIG dreams require a little more work and commitment. I hope that this story will show children that their hopes, wishes and dreams are important and that they CAN achieve their goals with a bit of with grit and determination - and encouragement from others.
I hope it is also a very inclusive book. Illustrator Sarah Warburton, publisher Nosy Crow and I have worked hard to ensure that the characters represent the true diversity of people in our society. I have to say, it's the first time I've EVER seen an Afro-Carribbean fairy godmother!
