Sarah Warburton
Sarah Warburton lives in Bristol with her husband and two children. She works from a shed in the garden that looks a little bit like Lily Rose May's house in The Princess and the Peas. It has a stove inside to keep her warm and lots of pens and pencils to draw with.
Most illustrators do rough drawings first before creating the final colour illustrations in their books, but Sarah's illustrations are so detailed that she often skips roughs and goes straight onto final artwork. For any other illustrator, this would be risky as the publisher or author might ask for changes. Luckily, Sarah is extremely clever so it usually works out okay!
When she was little, Sarah decided she wanted to be a horse. She used to trot and neigh around everywhere and refused to wear shoes! Nowadays, she always wears shoes, especially when she's walking her dog, Ivor the border terrier. Sarah has been illustrating for over 24 years and says her favourite character is the grumpy giant in The Princess and the Giant. "I like his thick knitted jumper and fluffy bunny slippers." Isn't that what all giants wear?
